Fatoumata Seck
Fatoumata Seck specializes in literatures and cultures of Africa and the African diaspora. Her research and teaching cut across various disciplinary and linguistic traditions with an emphasis on history, popular culture, and politics in the French-speaking world. She received a Ph.D. in French with an anthropology minor and a certificate in African Studies from 素人色情片. She also studied at University of Georgia and Universit茅 Jean Moulin Lyon III. Before coming to 素人色情片, Seck was an Assistant Professor at the City University of New York, College of Staten Island (CUNY/CSI). Her book manuscript tentatively titled Materializing Imaginaries in Postcolonial Senegal is a cultural history of the Senegalese left, which offers insights into how literature and popular culture impact everyday life by bringing about political, economic, and urban imaginaries in Senegal and beyond. Her scholarship has appeared in the Journal of African Cultural Studies, the Journal of Haitian Studies, World Literature Today, Etudes Litt茅raires Africaines, and Le Monde Afrique among others.
