The glide

Here is a new obvious question...

The Glide: seems simple enough, am I correct in thinking this is used as a kind of bottom deal? It seems to be about just shifting the face card out of the way so you can grab the one beneath, or deal out the next to bottom card until you wish to deal the bottom.

What are the pros and cons of the glide over any of the other bottom deals or have I missed the point here?

I suppose a strict bottom deal must look like you are dealing from the top, but still...

Essentially yes, it must I'd say. The glide is something different in that you're evidently doing something that doesn't appear anywhere near as 'clean' as dealing from the top, and hence is much more likely to arouse suspicion. It needs more by way of justification to provide cover for that.
