Join us onÌýZoomÌý´Ç²ÔÌýMonday, March 11th, at 11am PTÌýfor an engaging session featuringÌýProf. Luisa OssaÌýfrom La Salle University. She will be presenting her co-edited volume titledÌýAfro-Asian Connections in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on the dynamic interactions in Cuba.Ìý

Luisa Marcela OssaÌýis a Professor of Spanish and the Director of the Black Studies minor at La Salle University. Her research interests include the Black diaspora in Latin America and the Chinese presence in Latin America. She has published articles on Afro-Colombian authors such as Manuel Zapata Olivella and Edelma Zapata Peréz in the Afro-Hispanic Review and the Publication of the Afro-Latin/American Research Association (PALARA). She has also published articles on Black identity in Colombian Salsa. Dr. Ossa has also published articles in Marie Claire and Esquire magazines. Her co-edited book, Afro-Asian Connections in Latin America in the Caribbean (Lexington Books, November 2018), co-edited with Dr. Debbie Lee-DiStefano, explores historical, cultural, and social ties between people of African and Asian descent in Latin America and the Caribbean. Dr. Ossa currently serves as the President of the Afro Latin/American Research Association (ALARA), an international scholarly organization devoted to the study of the African Diaspora in the Americas.
